ABOUT
Our Story
Zao An was originally launched as a Taiwanese-style cafe in the ESEA Community Centre to provide a ‘bridging’ space between the member’s community space and the general public. The cafe would provide an accessible, welcoming and recognisable format to members of the community visiting for the first time.

After a few tumultuous months at ESEACC due to a difficult and hostile work environment, we decided to leave. Several investigations are ongoing by the Charity Commission and Hackney council to ensure that we get our voices heard to protect our community. Read our statement here:

Now, we are beginning again - this time as equals. We aim to form a co-operative business structure which means we all contribute towards Zao An's collective success. We care about bringing our ideas, passions, and care to what we do. We aim to work with great ESEA suppliers and small businesses to build a brand based off of authenticity and community.
